Stormwater Management and Drainage
The state and many counties administer stormwater management guidelines for new construction projects. These guidelines address the quantity and quality of stormwater runoff to protect water bodies as well as public health and safety. REA provides the technical and regulatory expertise to address stormwater management for construction projects.
Approximately one-third of Wisconsin farms depend upon constructed drains to remove excess water from their land. Most drains are operated by a single landowner or by voluntary cooperation among neighbors. However, approximately 10 percent of the drains are organized under drainage districts that are governed by county drainage boards according to the Wisconsin Department of Agriculture. REA has worked with many landowners and 12 drainage districts to provide surface and subsurface drainage systems to enhance crop production.
